In Cameroon, 20th century, a unit of area used in agriculture, = 1 square meter.

United Nations, 1966.

An are is 100 square meters, so this definition is completely consistent with the meaning of the SI prefix “centi-”. It does illustrate why the CGPM has tried to do away with special names for units that are simply multiples of another unit, such as hectare.
