kilowatt hour: kilo- + watt + hour, = 1000 kilowatt-hours. See also watt hour.

Though the kilowatt hour is not an SI unit (because the hour is not an SI unit of time), its symbol is formed as if it were. In the symbol, the W is uppercase because it is taken from a person's name, that of James Watt.

The symbols KWH and kwh are sometimes used for the kilowatt-hour, but are now incorrect.
